The first session covered the design of concrete floor systems for vibration. In his presentation, Florian reviewed the steps required to determine the vibration response of a concrete floor system and a methodology to evaluate vibration serviceability criteria. The presentation also highlighted the new integrated vibration analysis capabilities of Floor Pro and how it can be used to assess the vibration response of concrete floor systems much faster and more accurately than traditional methods. The second session elaborated on the unique features that have made Floor Pro the most complete and reliable software for the modeling, analysis and design of post-tensioned floor system. Redwood City, California – January 5, 2011 – ADAPT Corporation, the leader in structural concrete analysis and design software, announced today that its ADAPT-Builder/Floor Pro 2010 software can now be used by structural engineers to evaluate and design the vibration response of concrete floor systems with much less effort and time than with previously available methods. Typically, structural engineers use specialized software to model concrete floor systems and determine the natural frequencies of a floor system or hire specialized consultants to carry out independent analyses. This process requires the re-modeling of the structure, adds additional cost, is time intensive, and results in lengthy turnaround times between detailed design decisions and the assessment of a floor system’s vibration response. ADAPT-Builder/Floor Pro 2010, however, includes integrated modal vibration analysis that provides immediate feedback resulting from detailed design decisions and how these impact the vibration response of a concrete floor system. Unlike traditional approaches, that create challenges in maintaining the same level of detail between the models used to carry out structural analysis and design and the one(s) used for vibration analysis, ADAPT’s approach streamlines this process by using the same model. Special capabilities of ADAPT-Builder/Floor Pro’s vibration analysis include: “We are very excited about these new modeling and analysis capabilities offered in the latest version of ADAPT-Builder,” said Florian Aalami, President of ADAPT Corporation. “For years our clients have complained about why their design of concrete floor systems for vibration has to be so much more inefficient of a process than what they can already do with existing steel design packages that offer integrated vibration analysis. ADAPT-Builder/Floor Pro 2010’s integrated vibration analysis is just another step in our vision to deliver a complete solution for the design and detailing of concrete floor systems.” This streamlined and integrated approach will be of great benefit to structural engineers engaged in the design or retrofit of sensitive structures requiring a predictable vibration response. All ADAPT-Builder offers bi-directional integration with Autodesk® Revit Structure 2011, further streamlining the overall modeling, design and detailing process. Dr. Aalami authors Guidelines for the Design of Post-Tensioned Floors Read Article >>ABSTRACT: This article presents a set of guidelines intended to assist designers in routine post-tensioning design, beginning with a discussion of the initial decisions that must be made to design post-tensioned floor members. We then provide a set of recommendations, derived from industry practice, which have yielded economical designs with good in-service performance. Where applicable, we based the guidelines on ACI 318-02 and IBC 2000. Title: Guidelines for the Design of Post-Tensioned Floors Author(s): Bijan O. Aalami and Jennifer D. Jurgens Publication: Concrete International Volume: 25 Issue: 3 Date: March 1, 2003 ADAPT used to design first Post-Tensioned structures in three countries
Mr. Mathot also designed one of the buildings of the Brussels, Belgium International Airport, which has an approximate floor area of 1,600,000 sq ft (150,000 sq m), using the ADAPT software system and unbonded post-tensioning. ADAPT consulting highlights
