New Rebar and P/T Graphical Output for ADAPT-Floor Pro

Product Overview
ADAPT-Builder EX™ programs (ADAPT-Floor Pro, MAT, and SOG) now include advanced rebar and post-tensioning tendon modeling capabilities. Once again ADAPT leads the concrete design software industry with the development of this time and error saving solution.

For the design of post-tensioned slabs, the new capabilities streamline the modeling of tendons and enable the automated generation of detailed tendon layout drawings from the completed design model. An optional PT Shop Drawing module further prepares tendon information for the generation of shop (fabrication or installation) drawings.

All ADAPT-Builder FEM programs now also include basic Dynamic Rebar Design (DRD)™ capabilities. This feature automatically generates a graphical layout plan for designed slab and beam reinforcement. The amount and location of mild reinforcement placed in the slab is a function of user-defined design strips and typically specified reinforcement. Users of the software can specify any configuration of typical top and bottom reinforcement (wire mesh by bar size or area, grouped individual bars, and distributed individual bars). All rebar drawings are drawn at user-specified scale and are ready for export to AutoCAD DWG/DXF file formats.

An optional Advanced DRD module extends the capabilities of the software by giving structural engineers full interactive access to the graphical slab and beam reinforcement in their model, allowing them to adjust orientation, bar size, spacing, and other parameters. All changes made graphically are automatically propagated throughout the rest of the program and checked for consistency. For beams, the program also displays longitudinal and shear reinforcement in section views.

Image 1. Overview of Tendon Layout in Complex Slab
In ADAPT-Floor Pro, the same tendon model is used to run the structural analysis as well as generate detailed tendon layout plans. The top image shows a complex slab with its tendon layout, ready for export to AutoCAD. The bottom image shows a detail of the same project in AutoCAD - all tendon information is automatically generated by ADAPT-Floor Pro.

Image 2. Overview of Tendon Layout in Slab
ADAPT-Floor Pro supports the design of hybrid slab as shown in this image. The outer longer spans are designed as one-way post-tensioned slabs while the interior spans are designed using reinforced concrete.

Image 3. Detail of Tendon Layout
Tendons are modeled from anchor to anchor in their actual position. Once modeled, tendons can be shown in different views: profile editing mode (see image 4), view for submission of structural calculations (as shown in this image), and a representation ready for submission of post-tensioning shop drawings. For each case, the tendon output can show user-specified parameters such as control point height, elongation, effective force, chair height, etc.

Image 4. Easier Graphical Manipulation of Tendon Profile
With ADAPT-Floor Pro's new and improved tendon profiling tools, users can manipulate tendon profiles even faster than before. By manipulating tendon profiles in elevation, users greatly decrease errors while saving time. Each "hot point" of a tendon can be manipulated individually.

Image 5. Deflected Shape of Slab
After tendons have been added to a slab, ADAPT-Floor Pro solves the structure, calculating deflections, checking allowable stress limits, as well as determining the added mild reinforcement required (see image 6).

Image 6. Automated Rebar Layout and Graphical Editing
ADAPT-Floor Pro's new rebar layout module automatically places required reinforcement bars in the slab. Unlike other concrete design programs that only generate an image of the reinforcement, each reinforcement bar in ADAPT-Floor Pro is fully editable. In addition to changing placement, bar size, and other parameters of program-provided bars, the user can manually add supplemental steel. The final rebar placement plan is then easily exported to AutoCAD, saving time and eliminating errors in the creation of structural drawings.

Image 7. Detail of Rebar Layout
Required top and bottom bars are automatically drawn in the location they are required. The user can easily manipulate each bar (or group of bars) using its hot points.

Image 8. Fully Editable Rebar Output
The user can easily manipulate each bar (or group of bars) using its hot points.

Image 9. Detailing of Beam Reinforcement
For beams, ADAPT-Floor Pro automatically designs code specified longitudinal and shear reinforcement and places them in the section view. All rebar details are drawn to user-specified scale and are ready for export to AutoCAD. Image below shows plan view and elevation of a post-tensioned beam.
