Building Design Professional Development Seminars in 2007 As part of ADAPT's ongoing commitment to the global concrete design community and the advancement of the application of pre-stressing technologies, Dr. Bijan Aalami has made educational and practical seminars one of the principal activities of ADAPT over the last twenty-five years. Design engineers in Panama, Singapore, Latvia and Brazil relied on ADAPT software and consulting to successfully establish the practice of unbonded post-tensioning in their countries. Dr. Aalami's qualifications as a Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at San Francisco State University, a registered Structural Engineer in California, and a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, together with ADAPT's extensive design experience worldwide, provides the knowledge base upon which ADAPT seminars are developed. The primary themes of Building Design seminars offered by ADAPT are:

"Excellent seminar for updating your knowledge in the field of post tensioning design and construction. It covered design as well as practical construction aspects." - Yogesh Sharma, Concept Engineering Inc., Houston, TX "Finally an engineering seminar designed for structural engineers that utilizes 'real world' design examples." - Brian Stoddard, Project Engineer, Atlantic Engineering Services, Jacksonville, FL "Instructor was very knowledgeable, a good speaker and had good experience in programming and construction. Excellent seminar." - Tomas Winkler, Project Engineer, Wilson Structural Consultants, Sarasota, FL "Excellent course for those who are involved in post tensioning design." - Todd Lesperance, Cary, IL In association with the ASCE Seminar Series, Dr. Bijan O. Aalami will be presenting the latest developments in construction, design technology and software tools, providing participants with the know-how and means for efficient, economical and expeditious designs of post-tensioned buildings and parking structures. This seminar will cover modern design concepts, and explain design procedures using both long-hand numerical examples and computer applications. This is followed by an introduction to Component Technology, the state-of-the-art method for creating structural models for analysis and design of floor systems. The seminar will demonstrate how to reduce design time and potential errors by using Component Technology and software applications, integrating the design process from the architectural drawings all the way to the structural documents. Seminar participants will learn: ASCE member Dr. Bijan O. Aalami is Professor Emeritus of San Francisco State University Life Member of the Post-Tensioning Institute, Chartered Engineer, and CEO of ADAPT Corporation, a structural engineering firm in California specializing in design of concrete structures. Post-tensioning Design and Construction - A two-day educational and practical seminar With an optional hands-on training workshop This course is offered in collaboration with Imperial College London's Centre for Professional
Development. The course covers developments in post-tensioning design technology, construction
practice, economic advantages of post-tensioning and design software tools. The primary lecturer of the course is Dr. Bijan O Aalami,
the renowned world leader and teacher in the design of concrete buildings, bridges, and special
structures. Additional lecturers include Mr. Robin Whittle, Dr. Florian Aalami and Dr. Neil Tsang.
Mr. Whittle is Chairman of the Concrete Society Working Party, which has been
responsible for updating the technical design handbook TR 43, "Post-Tensioned Concrete Floors". Dr. Florian Aalami, is a specialist
in construction technology and software application. Dr. Tsang is on the staff of Imperial College London and is an expert on time and temperature
dependent behavior of concrete. At this seminar, participants will: At the hands-on training workshop, participants will: Click to view full Brochure and Registration Form (PDF 750kb) >> Click for additional online information >> Seminar time: 8:30am - 5:00pm Seminar location: Imperial College London Organizers: Centre for Professional Development Imperial College London www.imperial.ac.uk/cpd/ To register, contact the centre by e-mail, cpd@imperial.ac.uk, telephone, +44 (0)20 7594 6884, or fax +44 (0)20 7594 6883. EXCLUSIVE - ADAPT SOFTWARE AND DESIGN WORKSHOP SERIESHands-On Software Training with Practical Design Lectures Featuring ADAPT CEO Dr. Bijan O. Aalami Learn to design Post-Tensioned projects faster and with improved quality using ADAPT software. This workshop series is specifically tailored for ADAPT clients who want to improve their design procedures, productivity and quality using ADAPT-PT and/or ADAPT-Floor Pro software. Each workshop offers intensive hands-on training on ADAPT software with 2 hours of design instructions from Dr. Bijan Aalami. Workshop participants will be taught advanced skills in the application of ADAPT software and gain practical knowledge for the design of post-tensioned floor systems and beams. This unique combination of software training and design knowledge prepares the practicing structural engineer for the day-to-day challenges of designing post-tensioned projects. The ADAPT software, used as the basis of the course, is the worldwide industry standard and covers both the Equivalent Frame Method and 3D Finite Element Methods of analysis and design. The hands-on software and design training draws on over 35 years of the instructors design experience and teaching. WORKSHOP SCHEDULE All workshops are conducted as hands-on computer lab sessions; each participant will be provided with a computer loaded with ADAPT software.
